Stats SL which commenced the first digital Census of Business Establishments ( CBE) a little over week ago has successfully registered 50,000 businesses nationwide

The CBE will produce a statistical business register (SBR) covering all economic activities in Sierra Leone which will be used for planning purposes.

The 2022 CBE will count all businesses that have fixed addresses or locations across the country; from big businesses to umbrella covered businesses and ‘’Bafas’’.

On December 21st, 2022, the 50,000th business was registered in Freetown by enumerator Mohamed Kamara. Due to the digital nature of the CBE, the Statistician General and team are able to get all the details of the interviews conducted from the comfort of their offices at HQ in Freetown.

Director Mwaluma Gegbe of National Accounts and Economic Statistics division expressed delight over the smooth running of the digital CBE. Principal Statistician Osman Awuto Soltanu-Koroma who is the CBE Technical Coordinator immediately called the team to congratulate them on the 50,000th registration.

Deputy Statistician General, Andrew Bob Johnny, was not surprised at the efficiency and effectiveness of the supervisors and enumerators. “We at Stats SL trained 15,000 enumerators to conduct the digital Mid-Term Population and Housing Census. The digital CBE comes after the tremendous experience we had gained,” he said.

The World Bank technical advisor Arthur Giesberts, who supports the CBE from Washington DC was happy as he congratulated the Stats SL team on achieving this milestone
