In his over 2 hours engagement with Kwamena Leo (Ghana) and Yared Bekele( Ethiopia) on Saturday 13th November, 2021, Minister Kai-Kai, whose ministry has oversight for Stats SL, was shown the electronic Dashboard that was used for the monitoring of various indicators of the Pilot of the 2021 Mid-Term Census which ended on November 1 2021.

“ How long does it take to do an interview for an entire household”, the Minister asked.

“ 30 Minutes!”, responded a smiling Theophilus Blaudfaust, Stats SL's Director of Data Science, as he pointed to the projected dashboard screen that boldly displayed the average interview time and other indicators of the Pilot Census.

Dr Kai-Kai also inquired about the number of tablets that will be provisioned in a day. The UNECA tablet provisioning consultant, Yared Bekele confirmed that 2000 could be done, adding this number could increase considerably after the first few days when the staff have become more conversant with the activity.

Stats SL’s Director of Censuses and GIS who is the National Census Coordinator for the 2021 Mid-Term Census, Mr. Abdulai Brima, spoke on the experiences of the Pilot Census. He informed the honourable Minister that although the activity was successful, some challenges were faced. However, most of the challenges encountered, he assured the Minister, have been addressed with workable modalities and they have provided us with key lessons for the forthcoming main enumeration.

Minster Kai-Kai was visibly pleased with the reports he was receiving.

Concerning Communications for the Main Census Enumeration, Stats SL’s Director of Communication and Public Relations, Mr Samuel Ansumana, informed the Minister that all hands are on deck to ensure effective 360-degree communication and messaging that will resonate with census respondents.
