Dr. Mohamed P. Korjie

Dr Mohamed Korjie graduated with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Environmental Sciences in 2000 from Njala University College.  He served as Environmental Health Supervisor; CARE International from 2000 – 2002.

In September 2002 he gained employment with the Department of International Development (DFID) as WASH Program Officer until March 2004 when he joined UNICEF briefly as the WASH project Officer till August 2004. In September 2004, he gained admission with the Hohai University, Nanjing, in the Peoples Republic of China to pursue his Master’s Degree in Hydrology and Water Resources. He graduated with M.Sc. Degree in Hydrology and Water Resources in June 2006.

In that same year (2006) he was recruited as the Africa Engineering supervisor of the China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) in Guangzhou, China and was later transferred in February 2009 to work with the team on the Lagos Mole repair project in Nigeria. He served in the capacity of Africa Engineering Supervisor until his departure to Sierra Leone in May 2011.

From June 2011 to September 2019, Dr Korjie worked with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Family as the WASH Programme Specialist based in Freetown Headquarters provided technical support to the sub offices in Makeni and Kenema, analysed WASH data inputs for the situation analysis to inform the WASH policy and programme development, planning, management and implementation, monitored and certified sectoral program resources (financial, administrative and other assets), to verify compliance with approved allocations and donor commitments and report issues for timely resolution, negotiated and coordinated with government, local authorities, council and NGO partners for sustainable service delivery and ownership of the program, prepared draft WASH donor proposals and reports in line with WASH output results for review and incorporate into the country’s donor funding drive and managed the aspects of UNICEF’s preparedness for WASH in Emergencies including LTAs for supply of goods and services, partnership, and coordination.

In February 2014, Dr Korjie was admitted to an online doctorate degree at the Atlantic International University (AIU) in the United States of America to pursue the doctorate degree in Project Management, where he graduated in February 2017 with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Project Management.

In August 2019, Dr Korjie went through successfully both an examination and interview for which he gained the position of Principal Statistician and later appointed as the Technical Assistant to the Statistician General and Deputy Statistician General in the of office of the Statistician General.

Dr Korjie believes in credible data for national development and this could be done through data collection, processing, analysis and dissemination of accurate statistical information on economic and financial activities for government and the general public.
